Birchbox #7 – September 2016

This month’s Birchbox seemed to take a little longer to come around than usual. August has been quite the long month with some very exaggerated ups and downs but regardless I made it through alive.

As a result of surviving the eighth(!) month of the year, I was treated to another Birchbox – here are the items that made it into my box this month…

The August feature item was this Model Co Highlighting Trio. It comes in three shades to blend and highlight.

Subscribers were allowed to choose between two options this month for the feature item of the box. There was either the Model Co Highlighting Trio or Creme Rouge. To be honest I wasn’t too bothered as to which of the options I would have received. I had no strong feelings for either of the products, making my decision at the eleventh hour, choosing that which you see above.

I have heard from friends that cream based products aren’t very good, I’m by no means an expert on makeup, so I live of other people’s advice and opinions. I’m prepared to give it a go, try out something new and see what I think personally, after all that’s exactly why I signed up to Birchbox.

All the items within the box revolved around the theme of ‘heroes’ so it was only right that Batiste featured.

This convenient travel size Oomph My Locks XXL Volume Spray was another highlight of the box. It’s packed with Keratin and Inca Inchi Oil, claiming to help defend your hair against humid weather, which is a godsend (anyone who has seen me this last week will know how much I need this)!

I don’t tend to use dry shampoo products – I have never not managed to get that white effect on my hair, but I do use products to help give my hair a little lift. For the next few days I’m going to switch out my current hair treatment for this and see how it goes.

Polaar featured in the first Birchbox I received, so I was a little surprised to see the brand in my box so soon. This genuine Lapland Cream is brimming with antioxidants and vitamins, promising to work wonders on dry skin. I think I may have to lend this one to my Mum as she is visiting Iceland at Christmas, although I am tempted to save it for myself and see how it tackles my eczema through the darker months.

We have also received a Nuxe product before, in April which I was rather pleased with so I was delighted to see this Nuxe Prodigieux Huile de Douche Precious Scented Shower Gel, although again it feels a bit soon to be back to this brand. At the moment my skin is desperate for some nourishment so I’m hoping this does the trick with it’s skin softening oil.

Finishing off the box was this Laura Mercier Foundation Primer Blemish-Less, which promises to hold your base in place, preventing shine, minimising the look of pores and disguising blemishes. I know this is just a sample size, but I can’t help but feel it’s a little special because it’s Laura Mercier. I haven’t bought any of this brand, and the only other item I own is the Lip Glacé.

In the September Birchbox every subscriber, who had successfully recommended a friend received a bracelet, with one of a variation of slogans – mine features the word ‘imagine’. The bracelet is worth £15 is a very generous thank you gesture from Birchbox to those subscribers who sing their praises to friends and family. For me the bracelet is a little small – I did struggle somewhat to get the bracelet on, having to bend the metal quite a way to fit it over the smallest part of my wrist.

I’m really glad that this month we have returned to the box format, yes I still don’t like the tray insert, but I will compromise after the disappointment that was August’s Birchbag. The pale geometric pastel pattern I felt worked really well this month, I’m quite a fan of blocky designs so this is very much my thing. The box perfectly compliments the little pouch and bracelet I received.

Next month subscribers are due what looks like a very promising box! Birchbox have teased that the October edition will have an astrological theme. Designs will revolve around the subscriber’s star sign, I’m an Aquarius, which is one of the water signs  – I’m excited for what they will deliver!

Don’t forget if you’re thinking of signing up please use my refer-a-friend code and we’ll both be rewarded!
