Birchbox #5 – July 2016

The weeks have flown by recently and all too soon it was time for another Birchbox to drop through my letterbox. I had been looking forward to this box, having promised myself it as a treat for pulling off some conference work (I bought myself other treats too but that’s by-the-by).

I’m really glad that they have gone back to the traditional box design, as I was not too keen on the pull out style tray we received last month. On first impressions I’m quite pleased with this month’s box, so here’s what I received…

The star item of the box was a full size John Frieda product, with subscribers getting to choose between Frizz Ease Forever Smooth Anti-Frizz primer or Luxurious Volume 7 Day Volume In-Shower Treatment. As I am quite pleased with the frizz control product I am using at the moment I opted for the 7 Day Volume Treatment.

I have already put the treatment to work, having pampered myself in the shower this morning, attempting to ease the woes of France’s defeat in the Euros last night. I was probably rushing, having snoozed a little too long, but I didn’t find it very easy to apply, having trouble working it through the length of my hair. This meant I used almost twice the recommended amount, I would say it did give my hair a little boost, though I didn’t like the texture of my hair after I had dried it. I will be giving this another go tomorrow to see if it gets any better, it’s probably just me more than anything – this morning was an absolute mare!

The next big item in the box was a full size LOC  Ultra-Gloss Lip Pencil. This had been designed by Millie Mackintosh, which included selecting the shade. I find the colour to be quite subtle, which I like, and it is rather glossy, giving my lips a burst of long lasting colour and moisture.

In my box I also received a mini Nails Inc Nail Polish in a sky blue-esque shade. Typically I’m not one for nail polish, it’s one of those things I think looks better on other people, whereas when I do it I feel it looks childish (I’m terrible messy with the application). I might give this shade a go, as it’s quite muted and I’ve heard good things about Nails Inc, though never used them before.

A 15ml tube of Elemis Hydra-Nourish Night Cream was also nestled in the box, which promises rehydration for the skin. I’m going to swap my Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising lotion (which I swear by) out for a few days and try the Elemis instead!

Lastly I received an Indeed Labs Hydraluron Mositure Boosting Mask which I’m quite excited about. I think I will try this one soon, my skin is quite dry at the moment and I’m blighted by a bit of a break out. I want to know if it’s any good, as a moisture mask might be my saviour come Winter, when my eczema flares up.

I feel like the contents in my box were well varied, and a good selection of things to choose from which I’m quite pleased about. Last month’s Birchbox was disappointing for me as a lot of the products were self-tan, or had self-tan in and this isn’t something I use all too often.

This month the Birchbox was produced in collaboration with Millie Mackintosh of Made in Chelsea fame. I do actually watch Made in Chelsea, having done so from the start and rather lament that Millie is no longer a part of the show.  Birchbox have been teasing this box for several months now and I must say it was worth the wait.

Earlier in Spring Birchbox held a poll for subscribers to choose which colour the box would be and if you read about my last Birchbox, you’ll know I voted for blue, but pink won, which I was a little apprehensive about. Thankfully the box is not the girly pink I was expecting, and I would say it’s more pinky-purple. I am rather enamoured with the watercolour design on the front of the box, and think the gold accent makes it even more stylish. After the Rifle Paper Company box from April, this month’s design would have to be my favourite – good work Millie!

Next month Birchboxers will receive a Birchbag! The Birchbag is white and looks very much like a travel bag for toiletries. They teased it in four different variations, with the main body of the bag being white and the zip detail and tag coming in different neon colours. One can never have too many toiletries bags so this one will not only be super cute, but super handy too – I can’t wait!
