Birchbox #2: April 2016

My second ever Birchbox arrived last week, and as work has been quite busy and a little stressful recently I was looking forward to getting my monthly treat through the post!

The April box design was a collaboration between Birchbox and Rifle Paper Co. as you might have read when I posted about March’s box I was super excited to find out these two would be collaborating.

Rifle Paper Co. is a much coveted stationery brand founded in the US by Anna Bond. I’ve only ever managed to find Rifle Paper Co in the Paperchase on Tottenham Court Road and Moonko (love that place!) in Sheffield. I have a small collection of their cards stashed away, which under no circumstances do I plan to send, I’m saving them and hope to frame them all for a feature wall when I move out. The artwork and illustrations are so beautiful, with motivational slogans to match.

Subscribers got to choose between two Rifle Paper Co. designs ‘Herb Garden’ and ‘Jardin du Paris’, the latter of which I opted for. The box is a splash colour with flowers in pinks, yellows and oranges, complimented by beautiful green hues in the exquisitely shaded leaves. It’s going to sit really beautifully alongside March’s box. I really liked the Herb garden design too, so deciding which one to receive was quite hard.

As part of the collaboration subscribers were offered the opportunity to purchase two Rifle Paper Co. pocket notebooks to be included when the box was shipped. Naturally, I snapped up the opportunity, managing to get them free having redeemed £4 of my Birchbox points, gained when a friend used my code to subscribe. The notebooks have such pretty and delicate designs, they’re almost too nice to write in!

In the box there was also a 25% off voucher for Birchbox subscribers to use on the Rifle Paper Co. website, it’s valid until the end of the year, so I’ll be hanging onto it and might place an order soon.

There’s a very good range of products which I am pleased with. In my box I received Parlor Detangling Conditioner, Benefit They’re Real Mascara in perfect handbag size, a Cynthia Rowley eye liner, Kueshi Foot cream and finally wrapped up securely was a luxurious looking mini bottle of Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse oil.

I cannot wait to try the Parlor Detangling Leave-In Conditioner, my hair gets itself into a ridiculous number of knots and tangles any time it comes even remotely near wind or water. On first impression it smells really nice too, almost tropical.

IMG_1340.JPGBenefit They’re Real! Mascara in Beyond Black, which is an alternative to flash lashes, is a highlight of the box too. Adding both length and volume, it is also a handy size for popping in your bag – not that you should need to reapply it through the day.

The Cynthia Rowley Eyeliner is a Birchbox exclusive, a glam little black pencil decorated in dots of gold. I haven’t used eyeliners since I was 15 – I was probably more confident with makeup then than I am now! Like the mascara it also promises to be smudge-proof and long lasting.

IMG_1338I’m not really good at maintaining my feet anything past ensuring dead skin is kept well at bay so I’m intrigued to try the Kueshi Foot Care Cream. It contains tea tree oils, royal jelly and sweet almond oil, promising to soften and repair feet.

I haven’t ever really used facial oils but with a blend of six oils the Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse multipurpose oil is supposed to be good for use on the face, body or hair. I always worry about using oils, and them making my skin or hair greasy but as this is a dry oil it shouldn’t be a problem.

I’m really pleased with this month’s box, again it seems really good value, and there is a good range of products. The fact that Birchbox have collaborated with Rifle Paper Co. only enhances the box, and reinforces how good my decision to subscribe was.

If, like me, you want to receive monthly Birchboxes why not use my Refer-A-Friend code here, which will get you £5 worth of points to spend in the Birchbox store.

I’ll be posting more about my in-depth thoughts on the contents of my box in a few weeks, having had change to test them properly, but I hoped you enjoyed reading my first impressions! If you have any tips for any of the products or have used them yourself please do let me know!
