After a few months of deliberation I have finally taken the plunge and signed up to receive Birchboxes. My first one is due to arrive any day now, but I though I would share with you a few of my initial thoughts!
Birchbox seems to work in much a similar way to Graze boxes, that is you input a few preferences, likes, dislikes etc. and you receive a tailor-made product through the letterbox each month. Graze was my go to subscription service for about five years with regular snack boxes, though I decided to move on from Graze at the end of last year and have been looking for a replacement ever since.

In each box comes five beauty products, based on the information you enter, including one or two full size products to try. I’m hoping the boxes will fit through a standard letterbox which would make it super easy – I can’t find anything on the website that says so, but I don’t want to have to worry about going to the sorting the office each month. In the past boxes have included top names such as Philip Kingsley, Liz Earle, Caudalie and Benefit so I’m looking forward to seeing what I receive in the coming months.
Birchbox has different price plan options, including a 3, 6 or 12 month billed rolling plan, which incurs a saving at each level, however as I am just starting out I thought it best to go with a monthly re-bill so that I can opt out at any point should I so wish. It costs me £10/month & a £2.95 shipping charge, which, fingers crossed, when I start receiving new products to try will be worthwhile. Birchbox debits subscribers’ accounts on the first of each month, and then boxes should arrive by the 10th of that month.
I’ve followed Birchbox for a month or so now on Instagram and I’m loving the unique box designs each month, I’m super excited to receive my first one as the March box looks particularly good. In hindsight I wish I had started in January, as the January Pinterest box looked pretty inspirational, and would have started me off well with my (sort of) New Year’s Resolution to take better care of myself.

I’ve joined Birchbox as because, as you may have seen in my perfume post (which you should read if you haven’t), I’m not at all confident with makeup and it’s one of the things I’d like to work on. You’ll often find me having done nothing more than moisturised and put on stay matte powder each day, my hair doesn’t get all that much attention either. I work with some pretty glam people who come to work looking like, with no stress at all, they’ve executed a makeup routine to an excruciating degree of of perfection, so it would be nice to look like I’ve but even a small degree of effort in too. I do own quite a few products, I just need to be more self-assured when using them, making a routine and sticking to it. Of course I’ll share with you my journey and what I learn, as well as most likely, some mishaps along the way!
It also fits beautifully with my resolution of writing more – even if it is just product reviews! I had the old blog for a while, and enjoyed writing as it helped me relax and unwind, but I felt constrained to write only of things that are edible, and often found myself trying to segway in a visit to York or something similar, so now I’m writing about anything and everything, any time and anywhere!
To start the subscription you complete a beauty stats page, where it’s required that you input a bit about yourself, including what beauty knowledge level you would classify yourself as (I went for newbie, obviously) as well as skin concerns and such like. You also get the opportunity to select whether you would like to receive organic products, perfume samples and even better invites to Birchbox events! It’s pretty easy to fill in, the hardest bit I found was trying to figure out if I my skin would classify as porcelain or Ivory, after a Google search I opted for Ivory – if you know me and think I’ve gotten this wrong please do tell me – I’m hopeless!
Birchbox have very kindly sent me a refer a friend code, so if any of you are thinking about joining up please use follow this link – if you do you’ll get £5 worth of Birchbox points! If you’re intrigued and want to find out more about Birchboxes in general, including what has been included in previous boxes go here.
The first Birchbox should come through my letterbox this week, I’ll be posting each time I receive a box to show you what treats I receive and let you know my thoughts on them, so please remember to keep reading and share with me any views or tips you have on the products I get!
